Come ‘Romp the Commons’ in ’70s style

Break out the caftans, oversized accessories, bold prints, and gloriously unbothered ’70s style. Aftershock Events will host Romp the Commons, a free, public Mrs. Roper-inspired social meet-up on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Federal Hill Commons in Noblesville.

Romp the Commons will take place alongside the evening’s regularly scheduled Concerts at the Commons, presented by Noblesville Parks & Recreation. The concert is a separate public event, with Aftershock Events hosting the themed gathering during the festivities.

The concert opener begins at 7 p.m., followed by the official Romp the Commons meet-up and Regal Beagle Wine Trade at 7:30 p.m. at the picnic pavilion near the playground.

Guests are encouraged to arrive in their finest Mrs. Roper-inspired attire, whether that means a flowing caftan, statement jewelry, dramatic sunglasses, or any colorful interpretation of 1970s leisurewear. The first 50 costumed rompers to check in will receive a limited-edition Romp the Commons sticker.

The optional Regal Beagle Wine Trade invites participants of legal drinking age to bring a labeled bottle of wine and exchange it for another. Guests should clearly mark their bottle as sweet, dry, red, white, or blush to make trading easier. All alcohol must remain within areas permitted by Federal Hill Commons and follow applicable park rules.

The evening will feature plentiful photo opportunities, new friendships and a dance floor powered by the retro party favorites of Rod Tuffcurls & The Bench Press.

“This is an easy, joyful way for people to dress up, meet someone new and become part of the entertainment,” said Jessica Vandergraff, founder of Aftershock Events. “You do not need to belong to a club or know anyone beforehand. Put on something fabulous, find us at the pavilion and join the romp.”

Romp the Commons is free and open to the public. No registration is required. Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, picnic snacks and their most delightfully dramatic accessories.
