Carmel resident begins Peace Corps service

Jill Stafford of Carmel has been accepted into the Peace Corps. Stafford will depart for Cambodia on July 31 to begin training as an English teacher.

Stafford is a 2025 graduate of Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in international relations.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to combine my interests in education, community engagement, and international service while learning from others,” Stafford said.

As an English teacher, Stafford will collaborate with teachers and school staff to strengthen English-language instruction and the students’ English proficiency.

Stafford joins the 103 Indiana residents currently serving in the Peace Corps. More than 8,699 Hoosiers have served in the Peace Corps since 1961.

Peace Corps volunteers serve in host communities for two years following three months of training and receive a living stipend, housing, extensive language and technical training, and financial benefits that can include graduate school fellowships after service.
