Guerin Catholic graduate Eli Wessel has been named to the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association’s Academic All-State team, it was announced on Tuesday.
Wessel was part of the Golden Eagles’ third-place team finish at the state meet last week and also was the individual runner-up. Wessel has committed to the University of Cincinnati.
Two Noblesville golfers were named to the IHSGCA’s Honorable Mention Academic All-State: Jackson Mahan and Dustin Turpin.
Academic All-State is awarded to seniors with a minimum 3.5 grade-point average and SAT score of 1100. Golfers must have competed in their sectional tournament and at least half of their team’s varsity events during the season.
In another important award, Noblesville’s Gary Deakyne was named the 2026 Boys Golf Coach of the Year for Region 4 (Yorktown). Deakyne coached the Millers to a sectional championship and regional runner-up finish, qualifying Noblesville to state for the fifth consecutive year.
