INDIANAPOLIS – The run of Carmel doubles team Madison Littell and Gabby Hall came to an end in the championship match of the individual state tournament.
The Greyhounds seniors battled with Jasper’s team of senior Adaysha Smiley and sophomore Stella Knies in the final, which took place Saturday, June 13 at Park Tudor, before the Wildcats held on to win 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
“I think everyone was playing their best,” said Littell. “It was just whoever was getting the momentum. They were finishing some shots and we needed to finish them, but it was overall a great match. Every game was going to deuce, so everyone was playing their best.”
Littell and Hall were undefeated in the regular season, then stayed perfect throughout the team part of the postseason, helping Carmel to a team state championship. That qualified the Hounds for the individual tournament, where they were the top seed.
Carmel easily won its morning semifinal match, defeating the Fort Wayne Snider team of seniors Tatum Miguel and Hannah Henry 6-2, 6-1. Littell and Hall are the 10th team to reach an individual doubles final and the first to appear in a championship match since Lauren Littell and Leila Anthony won in 2019.
Madison Littell noted that she and Hall had been playing together since seventh grade. Hall said it was “really amazing” playing with Littell.
The Greyhounds finished their season with a 22-1 record.
