Public invited to “Take a Ride in History” while honoring Hoosier veterans and celebrating America’s 250th Anniversary

As America commemorates its 250th Anniversary, the Indiana Wing of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) invites the public to celebrate our nation’s history through the sights, sounds, and stories of the Greatest Generation at CAF Barnstorming Days, taking place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at Indianapolis Executive Airport, 11329 State Road 32, Zionsville.

This one-of-a-kind event offers the public a rare opportunity to “Take a Ride in History” aboard authentic World War II training aircraft, connecting attendees directly to the aviation legacy and courage that helped preserve the freedoms we celebrate during this milestone year.

Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase rides in historic World War II-era trainer aircraft, including a 1942 Vultee BT-13, 1943 Boeing Stearman, 1944 Fairchild PT-26, and a North American AT-6D. These aircraft played a vital role in preparing American aviators for combat, serving as the foundational trainers where thousands of WWII cadets first learned the skills they would carry into war.

A special highlight of this year’s event is a generous donation from FedEx, helping the Indiana Wing honor Indiana veterans and their families in a meaningful way. Through this support, the CAF Indiana Wing will provide 25 complimentary warbird rides to selected Hoosier veterans as a tribute to their service and sacrifice. Veterans interested in participating may apply online at indianawingcaf.org/veterans.html.

“This event is about more than airplanes; it’s about honoring service, preserving history, and creating unforgettable memories for veterans and their families,” said Mark Van Zant, Development Officer for the Indiana Wing CAF. “As our nation celebrates 250 years of freedom, this is a unique opportunity to reflect on the brave Americans – especially the WWII generation – who helped secure that freedom, while allowing today’s families to experience a living piece of that history.”
