The Carmel girls lacrosse team advanced to the Indiana Girls Lacrosse (INGLA) playoffs semifinals after beating Westfield 9-5 in a quarterfinal game at the Greyounds’ Brian Murray Stadium.
Carmel led 2-0 after the first quarter, with Gia Ferrettie and Jackie Mabry both scoring goals. The Hounds increased their lead to 5-1 by halftime; Annabell Gripe, Sadie Benson and Lila Hammons all put in one goal. Sophia Merriman got the Shamrocks on the board at the 8:09 mark.
Both teams added one goal in the third period, which meant Carmel led 6-2 by the quarter’s end. Mabry scored early in the period, while Merriman got a goal with 25 seconds left.
The fourth quarter was the busiest, with both teams putting in three goals. Julianna Marcini, Mabry and Benson all scored for the Hounds. Ella Schaefer made two goals for Westfield, while Hannah Cavalcanti scored one.
The Rocks finished their season 11-6. Carmel is 10-8 and plays Guerin Catholic Saturday in the INGLA semifinals at Zionsville.
