Golden Eagles, Shamrocks earn conference titles

The Guerin Catholic and Westfield girls tennis teams are conference champions in their respective leagues.

The No. 1-ranked Golden Eagles clinched the Circle City Conference trophy with a 4-1 dual-meet victory over Bishop Chatard on Monday. Guerin Catholic won both doubles and the Nos. 2 and 3 singles matches.

Freshman Emily Pasman won No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-2, while No. 3 singles Anna Kolb scored a 6-0, 6-0 shutout. The doubles were also quick matches: No. 1 Katie Kolb and Abby Quigley won 6-3, 6-1 and No. 2 Grace Docktor and Maddy Hood were 6-1, 6-2 winners. No. 1 singles Cece Phillips dropped her match 6-2, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Westfield triumphed at the Hoosier Crossroads Conference tournament, which finished Saturday, May 9 at Avon.

The Shamrocks, who are tied for ninth in this week’s coaches poll, won four of the five flights to score 39 points. All of the winners were named to the All-Conference team: No. 1 singles Isla Harvey, No. 2 singles Sloane Seyferth, No. 1 doubles Jenna Berry and Bella Rivera and No. 3 singles Kendall Omer and Rayna Roy.

Zionsville placed second with 31 points, followed by third-place, No. 14-ranked Fishers with 30 points. The Tigers’ Addie Sharpe won at No. 3 singles and placed her on the All-Conference team.

Fishers’ No. 1 singles Allison Briggs and No. 2 Ryan Bell took second in their respective flights, also earning them All-Conference honors.

Hamilton Southeastern, ranked No. 27, tied for fourth with Brownsburg. Both teams scored 24 points. Kaitlyn Kelly placed third at No. 2 singles, while Ella Tappendorf took third at No. 3 singles.

Noblesville finished in eighth place as a team, scoring 5 points.

Westfield won a 6-1 dual meet over Plainfield on Monday.

Harvey won at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0 while Seyferth cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Alexis Halliburton fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

The Shamrocks swept all four doubles matches. No. 1 Berry and Rivera came back to win 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, No. 2 Kendall Omer and Roy were victorious 6-1, 6-1, No. 3 Emerson Dierkes and Jilly Omer won 6-1, 7-6 (9) and No. 4 Reese Miller and Rebecca Doye were 6-1, 6-2 winners.
