The Sheridan softball team picked up its first win of the season Monday, beating Covenant Christian 12-9.
The Warriors scored twice in the top of the first inning. The Blackhawks got a run back in the bottom of the first: Ellie Eaton led off with a home run.
Covenant led 5-1 midway through the third inning. Makenzy Terry singled in Adria Jump in the bottom of the third, then Amiyah Doss batted in Eaton for a fourth-inning run.
The Warriors surged ahead 9-3 with four runs in the top of the fifth. Sheridan put up four runs in the bottom of the inning: Abby Dallas singled in Terry, then Eaton smacked a double to left field to bring in Remi Smith and Dallas. Hayleigh Kemp later stole home plate, and the Hawks were within 9-7.
Sheridan completed the comeback with five runs in the sixth inning. The Blackhawks loaded the bases, then Eaton singled in Norah Adams. Anna Rusk drew a walk to score Smith, then Doss drew a walk to send Dallas home. Eaton scored on a wild pitch, then Doss scored on another wild pitch.
Jump pitched a perfect seventh inning to clinch the win; she allowed only three hits in the last three innings. Adams got the start, tossing seven strikeouts in four innings.
Eaton was perfect at the plate, hitting 4-for-4. Dallas was flawless too, going 3-for-3.
Sheridan is 1-3 and hosts Elwood this afternoon.
