Volleyball: Carmel volleyball picks up two wins

The Carmel boys volleyball team is off to a strong start, having compiled an 8-2 record over its first 10 games.

The Greyhounds began the week with two sweeps. First, Carmel traveled to Bishop Chatard on Tuesday and beat the Trojans 27-25, 25-20, 25-16.

Junior Jack Kovak led all attackers with 13 kills on 20 swings, making no errors. Sophomore Eli Philistin Lynch put down eight kills on 20 swings.

Sophomore Dylan Kaiser hit .750 and served two aces. Senior Shep Spidel added 31 assists, and senior Brice Hagaman contributed 10 digs.

The Greyhounds went back on the road Wednesday to Center Grove and came home with a 25-17, 25-13, 25-21 victory.

Thomas Kuehl led the offense with 12 kills, while Philistin-Lynch hit 10 kills. Kovak made five blocks, while Spidel had four blocks, in addition to handing out 36 assists. Hagaman collected nine digs.

Carmel plays at the Bedford North Lawrence Round Robin on Saturday, taking on Roncalli at 9 a.m. and Jeffersonville at 11 a.m.
