The City of Tipton officially broke ground Wednesday on its new baseball complex at Tipton City Park, marking a major milestone in a project designed to expand youth athletic opportunities and enhance community recreation.
City officials, project partners, community leaders, and supporters gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking at the future site of the complex, located just south of the existing park. The ceremony included remarks from city leadership, project partners, and major contributors, followed by the first turn of dirt and group photos.
The project will bring three new baseball fields to Tipton, designed to support multiple levels of play and provide a long-term home for youth baseball in the community.
“This is an exciting day for Tipton and a moment that represents years of planning, partnership, and commitment to our community,” said Mayor Kegan Schmicker. “We’re proud to officially get this project underway, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has played a role in helping bring it to this point.”

The project is supported through a combination of City investment and a community-driven capital campaign, with key contributions from IU Health Tipton Medical Staff, Tipton County Foundation, and Encompass Credit Union, who each serve as field sponsors for the new complex. Additional collaboration from project partners, including Build BW and Engineering Resources, Inc., has helped move the project from planning to construction.
The new facility will include a Babe Ruth field, a Cal Ripken field, and a dedicated Pee Wee field, along with supporting amenities for players, families, and spectators.
Schmicker also expressed appreciation for those who have supported local youth baseball programs during the transition period.
“We also want to thank the Town of Atlanta for opening their fields to our youth baseball program over the past couple of years,” Schmicker said. “Their willingness to step in and support our kids during this time has meant a great deal to our community.”
Once complete, the complex is expected to serve as a central hub for youth athletics in Tipton, providing a dedicated space for games, practices, and community use for years to come.
