Celebrating creativity and innovation in Hamilton East Public Library’s (HEPL) makerspace, Ignite Studio presents its third annual Make-Off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 21 at the Fishers Library.
Selected artists will compete to create an original piece of art using Ignite Studio equipment, kits, or other in-house materials, showcasing the creative possibilities of making. Each artist will have six hours to complete their work, with monetary prizes awarded for first, second, and third place. This year’s theme is mixed media. The day begins at 9 a.m. in the Ignite Studio, with awards presented at 4 p.m.
Patrons are invited to watch the creative process, participate in hands-on activities, and join the patron art challenge.
“The Fishers Make-Off is a chance to showcase artists who find unique and creative ways to use the materials and resources at Ignite Studio and provide inspiration to patrons in their own art making,” HEPL Arts Engagement Coordinator Kris Hurst said. “This event highlights artistic expression as a form of storytelling and connection, central to the library’s mission.”
Activities for the public include:
- Free art kits for the first 50 guests
- Collage: Make your own mixed media artwork with our mini collage kits complete with shadowbox frame.
- Assemblage wall: Add funky shapes, forms, and textures to the community wall.
- Metallic mandalas: Create your own multi-layered mandala using various materials.
- Public Maker Challenge (10 a.m. to noon): Participants ages 8 and up can learn the Chine-collé printmaking technique, combining prints and thin papers in a unique mixed media creation. Awards will be given in Youth, Teen, Adult, and Family categories. Registration is required to participate in the Public Maker Challenge.
