Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation to present original inclusive theater performance

An original story filled with humor, heart, and unexpected twists will take the stage this March at the Monon Community Center. Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation (CCPR) presents Fireside Mysteries, an original play created through CCPR’s Adaptive Inclusive Theater Program and performed during Disability Awareness Month.

Performances will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 6 p.m. and Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m., in the Multipurpose Room at the Monon Community Center East building. An American Sign Language interpreter will be provided for the Saturday, March 14 performance. Sensory-friendly areas will be available during each performance to support audience members who prefer a low-sensory environment.

Inclusive Theater brings individuals with and without disabilities together to develop and perform an original production. Participants take part in the full creative process, including character development and scriptwriting, resulting in a one-of-a-kind performance created by the cast.

Fireside Mysteries is a comedy-drama about a group of family members and longtime friends from Indianapolis who reunite to bury a time capsule. When several sentimental items mysteriously go missing, the group sets out to find them.

“This program is about much more than the finished production,” CCPR Inclusion Program Supervisor Kelvin Solares said. “Participants build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and explore self-expression while working together in a supportive, inclusive environment.”

The performance will conclude with a post-show question-and-answer session, giving audience members the opportunity to hear directly from the cast about their experience.

Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online through Friday, March 13. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door on the day of each performance.
