United Way of Central Indiana is inviting Hamilton County child care providers, schools, and community organizations to apply for grants designed to help them start or expand literacy initiatives.
Applications are now open through March 9 for United Way’s Literacy Fund, which provides grants of $10,000 to $25,000 to support literacy projects and efforts for children within the birth to age 8 range that improve language development, early literacy skills, reading, and writing.
Now in its second year, the Literacy Fund is open to licensed nonprofit child care centers, licensed family child care homes, registered ministries, licensed out-of-school time providers, Title I elementary schools and nonprofits located in United Way’s seven-county service area: Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, and Putnam counties.
Interested applicants must attend one of two virtual information sessions:
- Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 3 to 4 p.m. Register here.
- Monday, Feb. 23 from 1 to 2 p.m. Register here.

Last year, more than $500,000 was awarded to 33 child care providers, schools, and community organizations across central Indiana, including two in Hamilton County.
