Volleyball: Hawks overcome Panthers in four sets

The Sheridan volleyball team came back to beat Park Tudor in four sets Thursday at Larry Hobbs Gymnasium.

The Blackhawks won 24-26, 25-9, 25-15, 25-23. Lainey Mendenhall blasted 21 kills for Sheridan, while Adria Jump hit 10 kills. Amiyah Doss had four kills and Beth Adams put down three.

Jump dished out 25 assists, with Meredith Krupp handing out eight. Adams collected 16 service points, followed by Eva Todd with 12. Doss, Jump, Krupp and Adams all served three aces, while Todd served two aces.

On defense, Jump made 19 digs, followed by Krupp with 15, Adams with 11, Todd with 10 and Mendenhall with seven. Jump made one solo block and one block assist, while Mendenhall had two block assists.

Sheridan is 2-1 for the season and plays its next match Wednesday at International.

Carmel won a four-set match at Hamilton Heights on Thursday, 22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-21, for its first victory of the season.

Reece Blanton had strong serves for the Huskies, who are 5-1 for the season.

The Greyhounds are 1-2 and play hosts Warsaw Saturday morning. Heights is also back in action Saturday, playing in the Western Boone Tournament.

Westfield scored a quick sweep of Pendleton Heights on Thursday, winning on the road 25-12, 25-15, 25-15.

Junior Ava Rodda, senior Lucy McCool, junior Laynie Holman, and junior Madden Showalter all made offensive contributions for the Shamrocks.

Westfield is 2-0 and hosts Trinity Lutheran at noon Saturday.
