The dues are low & it only requires four meetings a year
The Hamilton County Chapter of Retired Teachers is a group for retired educators who taught or live in Hamilton County. The organization, an affiliate of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Indiana Retired Teachers Fund, holds four annual meetings for social interaction and learning about educational trends and current issues.
The chapter’s meetings take place on the third Thursday of April, June, August, and October. At each gathering, members enjoy a catered meal and an informative or entertaining program. The programs feature a variety of speakers, including musicians, authors, historical re-enactors, and local educators.
The current officers are:
- President: Dr. Bill York
- Secretary: Deb Carrell
- Treasurer: Laura Eller
- Membership Chair: Joyce Dudgeon
- Program Chair: Tammy Sewell
- Membership Concerns: Ina Van Duyn
- Community Service: Phyllis Linenberger
- Travel: Dan Clements
At the meetings, the secretary and treasurer provide reports, and legislative news from the statehouse regarding teacher pensions is shared. The group also tracks community service hours performed by its members to report to legislators, advocating for a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for retired teachers.
Membership is open to any retired teacher, administrator, or surviving spouse receiving a pension from the Indiana State Teachers Retirement Fund. Annual local dues are $6, and optional state dues are $35. Members can also sign up for automatic deduction of state dues from their September retirement pay.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, at 6 p.m. at First Christian Church, 16377 Herriman Blvd., Noblesville. The program will feature the White River Sound, a women’s a cappella chorus. The cost for the meal and meeting is $15, payable at the door. Reservations are required and must be made by 6 p.m. the Sunday before the meeting.
