Zionsville celebrating hometown 500 champion

Zionsville will honor 2025 Indianapolis 500 winner Álex Palou at the Town Council meeting on Monday, July 7, recognizing the racing champion who calls Zionsville home.

Palou, who drives the No. 10 DHL Honda for Chip Ganassi Racing in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, won his first Indianapolis 500 in May. The Spanish driver will be presented with a proclamation declaring “Alex Palou Day,” and he will receive an engraved commemorative brick during the meeting.

The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday, with a public meet-and-greet outside Zionsville Town Hall, where fans can take photos and get autographs with Palou. Chip Ganassi Racing will also display Palou’s No. 10 show car for attendees to view and photograph. The formal recognition will take place during the Town Council meeting, which at starts 7 p.m.

Palou’s victory marked a significant milestone for both the driver and Chip Ganassi Racing. The win came after years of strong performances in the INDYCAR SERIES, including three championships in the last four seasons, six wins through nine races in 2025, and an over 90-point lead in the championship standings.

This event is free and open to the public.

“In Zionsville, we appreciate excellence,” said Zionsville Mayor John Stehr. “Álex Palou is the first town resident to win the Indianapolis 500. We’re proud of him and his team – and want to make sure they know it by bringing out neighbors from across Zionsville to publicly congratulate them and celebrate their victory.”
