Prevail & CenterPoint team up to help victims
Prevail, Inc. has received a $5,000 grant from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation to support housing stability for survivors of crime and abuse in Hamilton County. This funding will directly assist survivors in overcoming one of the most pressing challenges they face: access to safe, stable housing.
“At Prevail, Inc., our mission is to empower survivors of crime and abuse on their path to healing,” Prevail Executive Director Tami Wanninger said. “Safe, stable housing is one of the most urgent needs for survivors, and this grant allows us to continue removing barriers that stand in the way. Our approach goes beyond providing shelter – we’re building a comprehensive, survivor-centered housing response that prioritizes safety, dignity, and long-term stability through flexible funding, trauma-informed care, and innovative, individualized solutions.”
Lack of emergency housing often forces survivors to remain in or return to unsafe environments due to limited alternatives. National data shows that survivors are four times more likely to experience housing instability than the general population.
In response, Prevail launched its Flexible Funding Program in 2019 – a survivor-centered initiative that provides direct financial support to help individuals secure or maintain safe housing during or after leaving an abusive relationship. The program addresses the well-established link between interpersonal violence and homelessness and has become a vital part of Prevail’s comprehensive service model.
CenterPoint Energy Vice President for Community Relations June Deadrick remarked, “The CenterPoint Energy Foundation is proud to support Prevail, Inc. in providing affordable housing support so survivors can have a safe place to call home. By investing in Prevail, Inc., we hope to help take strides toward creating safe, affordable housing for those who need it most in Hamilton County, Indiana.”
The CenterPoint Energy Foundation strives to be a catalyst in the communities it serves by leveraging everyday opportunities and resources to increase the vibrancy of these communities. Grants are awarded to eligible nonprofit organizations with programs that support community vitality and education in CenterPoint Energy’s business footprint.
