Baseball roundup: Blazers, Hawks get big wins

The University baseball team took care of Anderson Prep Academy 12-2 in a five-inning Wednesday Pioneer Conference game at RoundTripper Academy.

The Trailblazers put up seven runs in the first inning, then scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game. Cam Rady was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 and driving in three runs.

Phillip Jacobs hit a double and batted in two runs. Cooper Burnett scored three runs, while Ryan Castetter scored twice. Laine Spears got the pitching win.

The Trailblazers are 12-10 and host Brebeuf Jesuit at 6 p.m. tonight.

Sheridan cruised past Taylor 17-4 in a five-inning away Hoosier Heartland Conference game on Tuesday.

The Blackhawks put up eight runs in the first inning, then added one run in the second and two more in the third. Sheridan scored six runs in the fourth inning.

Caleb Alexander went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring another two. Braelan Bochner had two hits, batted in four runs and scored three. Jack Oland and Chance Spencer both had two RBI, with Oland, Braden Whisman, Jacob Hall and Gavin Schwerdtfeger all scoring two runs. Whisman hit a double.

Oland pitched 4.2 innings for the win, striking out eight and allowing three hits. Keegan Stout pitched the final out.

Sheridan is 7-10 and plays at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon at Tipton.
