Carmel is “Swim City, USA,” and Carmel High School is a big reason why. The girls and boys swim teams have enjoyed historic runs and the Greyhounds have become a national powerhouse in the sport.

This year’s athletes delivered more of the same success. The girls won their 39th consecutive state championship while the boys notched their 11th straight, unprecedented, and sustained domination, as well as a national record for consecutive years of success.

On Wednesday, State Representative Danny Lopez visited the school to surprise these incredible student-athletes with a special acknowledgment: a House resolution he spearheaded during the 2025 Legislative Session to recognize the teams’ achievements.

Swim City, USA has become more than a moniker for the Carmel community. The immense talent Carmel High School teams have produced over the years – including Olympians Alex Shackell, Drew Kibler, and Jake Mitchell – have brought international attention to the city for four decades, helped shape local identity, and even generated measurable investment and return on investment.

Later this year, for example, Carmel will play host to the first leg of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup, bringing 750 athletes from 50 countries, their families and friends, and their coaches to the city, resulting in a significant economic impact.

Congratulations to Coach Chris Plumb, the swimmers, and the entire Carmel High School community on this incredible achievement.
