Hamilton Southeastern Schools names new Deer Creek Elementary School principal

Hamilton Southeastern Schools (HSE) has named Danielle Chastain as the new principal of Deer Creek Elementary (DCE) School.

Chastain, a familiar face in the HSE community with more than 30 years of experience, was approved by the Hamilton Southeastern Board of School Trustees during a special meeting Tuesday morning.

Chastain currently serves as an instructional coach at DCE and brings extensive leadership experience to her new role. She previously served as principal at Southeastern Elementary School and Riverside Intermediate School. Her broad experience at HSE also includes roles as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, and interim Director of Elementary Education, where she was instrumental in the opening Southeastern Elementary.

Chastain will succeed Principal Linda Ededuwa, who will retire at the end of the current school year after many dedicated years of service to HSE Schools. The district wishes Ededuwa all the best in her retirement.

Superintendent Pat Mapes expressed enthusiasm about Chastain’s appointment, stating, “I am thrilled to have Mrs. Chastain lead Deer Creek Elementary. Her deep connection to our district, her passion for academic excellence, and her commitment to the success and well-being of students and staff make her an ideal leader.”

Chastain’s educational philosophy centers around collaboration, community engagement, and student achievement. She has successfully led districtwide initiatives including the Science of Reading and the creation of innovative outdoor learning environments.

“I am truly honored to take on this new role,” Chastain said. “Deer Creek has an outstanding team of educators and incredibly supportive families. I look forward to continuing to build on the strong foundation already in place at DCE – ensuring every student feels empowered to reach their full potential.”

Chastain holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ball State University and maintains an administrative license in Elementary Education. She consistently participates in professional development to remain at the forefront of educational leadership practices.

Chastain will officially assume her new position on July 1, partnering with Assistant Principal Trice Black as they prepare for the 2025-26 school year.
