Hamilton Southeastern Schools has announced Dr. Craig McCaffrey as the new principal of Hamilton Southeastern High School (HHS).

Dr. McCaffrey’s appointment was approved during a special meeting of the Hamilton Southeastern Board of School Trustees on Tuesday. He joins HHS following more than 20 years of educational leadership, most recently serving as principal at nearby Noblesville High School.

Throughout his career, Dr. McCaffrey has demonstrated a deep commitment to creating inclusive, high-achieving school environments. At Noblesville, he significantly increased graduation rates, expanded Advanced Placement and dual-credit offerings, and launched innovative initiatives such as early college partnerships, credit recovery, and alternative education programs.

“Dr. McCaffrey is an exceptional instructional leader who places student success at the heart of everything he does,” Superintendent Pat Mapes said. “His collaborative approach and proven track record in both academic achievement and community engagement make him an ideal fit for Hamilton Southeastern High School. Under his leadership, we are confident HHS will continue to excel and inspire our students and staff.”

Dr. McCaffrey began his educational career as a science teacher and basketball coach before advancing into roles as assistant principal and principal. In these roles, he has led initiatives focused on curriculum development, school safety, special education, and staff development. His leadership has earned regional and state recognition, including the 2021 IASP District 5 High School Principal of the Year and the 2021 Indiana Music Education Association Outstanding School Administrator award.

“I am honored to join the Hamilton Southeastern High School family,” Dr. McCaffrey said. “I am deeply committed to fostering a supportive, challenging, and inspiring environment for all students. Working alongside the talented staff and engaged community at HHS, I look forward to building upon the school’s proud tradition of excellence.”

Dr. McCaffrey earned a doctorate in education (Ed.D.) and an educational specialist degree (Ed.S.) from Ball State University, a master’s degree in education from Anderson University, and a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Indiana University.

Dr. McCaffrey has been married to his wife, Tracy, for 28 years, and they have two daughters, Olivia and Alexa. Outside of work, he enjoys being with family and friends, volunteering at church, and participating in outdoor activities.

Dr. McCaffrey will officially begin his new role with Hamilton Southeastern Schools on July 1.
