John Edward Davis, 80, passed into his eternal home on April 25, 2025, following a 23-year battle with cancer. He passed peacefully home surrounded by his family.
John was born on June 19, 1944, in Indianapolis to Richard E. Davis and Ruth (Miller) Davis.
John grew up on a farm in Boone County, and later in life returned to live in the house he grew up in. In 1964, he married the love of his life, Brenda Haworth. Over their married years they enjoyed road trips, traveling out west, and exploring various historical sites throughout the United States.
He graduated in 1962 from Sheridan High School. John received a B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Arts from Purdue University graduating with a Masters in 1967. He began his teaching career teaching in Industrial Arts at Lakeland High School and LaGrange Middle School, LaGrange, Ind. In 1970, he began teaching Industrial Arts at Carmel Middle School. Throughout his teaching career, he also taught at Clay Middle School and Creekside Middle School in Carmel. His career spanned a time when Industrial Arts education changed to Industrial Education and eventually to Technology/STEM. He loved the rapid technological changes, continuous learning, and experienced a lot of joy teaching robotics and coaching the robotics team.
John was an active member of First United Methodist Church, in Sheridan. He enjoyed lifting his voice to the Lord and made many close friends during his 50 years as part of the choir.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Richard E. and Ruth Davis.
John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Brenda (Haworth) Davis; his daughter, Janice (Jesse) Vadas; and son, Richard (Nicole) Davis; and four grandchildren, Trevor (Cari) Vadas, Leah (Frank) Vadas, Garrett (Blair) Davis, and Abby (Corbin) Huffman; and a great-grandson to be born in June. John is also survived by his sister, Ellen (Davis) Baker of Crestwood, Ky.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, May 22 at First United Methodist Church, 207 E. Second St., Sheridan. Visitation will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. with the service following at 6 p.m.

John generously donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine. This gift will contribute significantly to the advancement of health science education in the state of Indiana. Those, like John, who decide to bequeath their bodies to the health sciences have made a significant contribution that benefits the quality of life and care for the living.
