FISHERS – Hamilton Southeastern (HSE) won the 4A softball state championship last season, and they are a top-five team in the sport again this year.
At the forefront is junior pitcher Grace Swedarsky. Swedarsky has an ERA of just 1 this year and is 6-2 on the seasons. She also has a staggering 98 strikeouts in 49 innings.
Despite all of her success so far, she said there’s still places for her to improve.
“There’s always ways that I can improve, whether that be speed, spin, and that’s always constantly something I work on and just to not be satisfied with where I am because I know I can be better,” Swedarsky said.
She’s incredibly focused and when she is just and she looks at you and just gives you the nod, you’re like, all right, there’s not much we got to deal with today because Grace, she can handle it. That circle is her circle
“She’s incredibly focused and when she looks and you and gives you the nod, you’re like, alright, there’s not much we got to deal with today because Grace, she can handle it,” HSE head softball coach Emily Pusti said. “That circle is her circle.”
Swedarsky is already committed to continue her career at Virginia Tech.
“It’s nice not having to go through all of the college decisions and applying to all that in the fall,” Swedarsky said. “But then also, it gives me something to work towards because I know once I get there, I’m going to have to be obviously better than what I am now so it gives me more motivation to improve myself.”
HSE is ranked No. 4 in the 4A rankings and is 7-4 so far this season. Their next game is against Lawrence North on Thursday.
