The REPORTER

The Guerin Catholic baseball team split two games at the PBR Tournament, which took place last Saturday at Morgan Township.

The Golden Eagles beat the host Cherokees 18-8 in six innings in their first game. Guerin Catholic scored four runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run from Ben Canada. Grant Beard blasted a two-run double in the second inning, part of a four-run inning for the Golden Eagles.

Morgan Township got within 8-5 in the top of the fourth, but GC put up three runs in the fifth, including a two-run double by Luke Gremelspacher. Canada hit another two-run homer in the fifth inning, then Ian Taylor ended the game in the sixth inning by scoring on a wild pitch.

Beard was 3-for-4 at the plate; he and Canada each drove in four runs and scored three runs. Also scoring three runs were Taylor and Nolan Ratcliff.

Guerin Catholic dropped their second game to Andrean 17-8. The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the second inning; Taylor blasted a triple to bring home Ratcliff and Finn Holden. Guerin kept it rolling in the third inning with five runs: Ratcliff tripled in Holden and Brody Cain, then Karson Smith batted in Ratcliff. Carson Kail hit a double to score Smith and Taylor.

The Golden Eagles led 7-0 at that point, but the 59ers scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Canada scored in the fifth inning when Holden reached on an error to give GC an 8-3 lead. But Andrean took over after that, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth, then putting up 12 runs in the sixth to take control of the game.

Guerin Catholic is 6-2. The Golden Eagles start a Circle City Conference series with Brebeuf Jesuit on Tuesday by hosting the Braves, then travel to Brebeuf on Wednesday. Guerin plays a doubleheader at Norwell on Saturday.
