October 22, 1938 – February 26, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved family matriarch, Waltraud Christina Flynn, known affectionately to many as Traudie.
Born in Kassel, Germany, on October 22, 1938, Waltraud embodied resilience and strength, having moved to the U.S. at the tender age of 19. She was a beacon of light in our family, her humor and generosity inspiring all those around her. Waltraud was a woman of great faith, deeply involved in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she found great comfort and solace.
Waltraud was a loyal and dedicated homemaker who took immense pride in nurturing her family. Her home was a warm and welcoming sanctuary filled with laughter, love, and the mouthwatering aroma of her cooking. Her hobbies ranged from shopping, watching her favorite shows, to daily walks at Mounds State Park. Waltraud had a special affinity for traveling, especially back to her native Germany, carrying with her the love for her homeland. A member of the Onward and Upward Extension Homemakers Club, she found joy in serving her community and was a steadfast friend to many.
Waltraud is lovingly remembered by her children, Patricia (Jonathan) Burman, Uwe Flynn, Robert (Sandra) Flynn, Sabrina (Brad) Sollberger, Nicole Flynn, Christopher Flynn, Joshua (Margaret) Flynn, and Alexis (Benjamin) Dunkelberger. She also leaves behind her sister, Edelgard Hartung. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam Steinmetz and Elizabeth Hartung; her beloved husband, Donald Flynn; her daughter, Tammy Flynn; and her brother, Roland Hartung.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’” (Proverbs 31:28-29)
Please join us in celebrating Waltraud’s life by sharing your memories and photos on her memorial page. Her legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched. Your stories and pictures will offer comfort and serve as a reminder of Waltraud’s remarkable life.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, March 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 302 E. 11th St., Anderson, Ind., with a Funeral Mass immediately following at 2 p.m.
