At approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday night, Noblesville Fire Department (NFD) units responded to a report of a potential residential fire.

Upon arrival, the first responders quickly located and isolated the fire to the screened-in porch at the rear of the home. A thorough search of the house ensured that no other areas were affected, and the resident’s dog was safely located and removed from the home.

The resident initially discovered the fire when a smoke alarm sounded, alerting her to the danger. She attempted to control the fire using a fire extinguisher and fire blanket. However, realizing the fire was too large, she wisely called 911 for assistance.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to civilians, firefighters, or pets. The Noblesville Police Department and Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted NFD during the response. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and has not been released.

This incident serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of working smoke detectors in every home. All residents should ensure their smoke alarms are properly installed and functioning. If you or someone you know needs assistance with smoke detectors, NFD is available to help. Please email thash@noblesville.in.gov to schedule a visit from one of the city’s firefighters.

Stay safe, and please remember to regularly check your smoke alarms to ensure they are operational.
