Kathy Whittaker Venable, Carmel, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in her home on January 25, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born in Lebanon, Ind., on May 23, 1947. She is now reunited in heaven with her devoted husband of 47 years, Arthur “Butch” Warren Venable.
Kathy graduated from Carmel High School and was a majorette of the drum and bugle corps where she met Butch and she married April 16, 1966, at age 18.
A woman of extraordinary compassion, Kathy selflessly welcomed and cared for her husband’s siblings, James and Paul Venable, after the passing of their mother, Glenna Venable, in 1968. She later adopted her husband’s sister, Amy Venable, while raising her young son, Todd, and later welcoming her son, Matt, into the family.
Kathy was a talented and dedicated hairstylist, earning her Master of Cosmetology license and successfully operating her own hair salon and ceramics shops called Kathy’s Kreations for many years.
Kathy was actively involved in numerous organizations, including Quilters Guild, Carmel Alumni Association, Carmel Historical Society, Women’s Auxiliary Club, Indiana Historical Society, and various genealogy groups. Her dedication to these organizations reflected her deep passion for history and heritage and preserving the past for future generations. Her hobbies brought her immense joy and showcased her creativity. She found fulfillment in quilting, jewelry making, ceramics, stained glass art, floral design, and cake decorating. In recent years, she also developed a love for diamond art. A woman of boundless creativity, kindness, and unwavering dedication, she touched the lives of her family and community with her talents and generous spirit.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Ophia (August) Marolt; and father, Emor Whittaker.
Survivors include her loving children, Todd (Ginger) Venable, Matt (Tammy) Venable, and Amy Venable Lawrence; brothers-in-law, James Venable and Paul (Rhonda) Venable; cherished grandchildren, Blake and Grant Venable, Jordan Lawrence, Lynn Venable, Kari (Brandon) Venable, Jesse, Anna, and Michael (Adela) Venable, Jacob and Ethan Walters, Taylor Meyer and Keeler (Tyler) Frank; adored great-grandchildren, Lyric, Logan, Ophelia, Theryn, Daniella, Eileen, and Pennelope; and her dear friend Natalie Cotton. She is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
Family and friends will gather at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Carmel Friends Church, 651 W. Main St., followed by a Funeral Service at 1 p.m.
Burial will take place at Carmel Cemetery.
Kathy’s love, generosity, and devotion to her family will remain a legacy. She will be deeply missed by all who have the privilege of knowing her.
