Huskies finish second, Blackhawks finish fourth among HCC schools

The Hamilton Heights and Sheridan girls wrestling teams competed at the Lafayette Jefferson “Wrestlemania” Super Conference tournament last Saturday.
There were 28 teams from the North Central, Hoosier, Midwest and Hoosier Heartland conferences competing. The Huskies finished second among Hoosier Conference schools and in ninth place in the overall team standings with 109 points. The Blackhawks placed fourth as a team among the HHC schools and 19th overall, scoring 54 points.
Heights’ Kendall Moe won the championship at 110 pounds, finishing the regular season as the No. 1-ranked wrestler in that weight class. Aubrey Baber placed third at 115 and is 17-4 for the regular season. Other top finishers for the Huskies were Maya Totleben (sixth at 135), Izzy Bailey (seventh at 145) and Madelyn Smith (eighth at 100).
Anna Hamersley led Sheridan’s team scoring with a 4-1 record, placing fifth overall and fourth in the deep HHC. Aubrey Koch and Devyn Pewarski both scored 14 team points with a sixth-place overall finish at 110 and 130 respectively. Pewarski finished second in the conference and Koch placed third.
Ryleigh Hampton and Eva Todd rounded out the Blackhawk team scoring with four points each. They both posted a 1-1 record. Gracie Stowers and Madie Underwood also competed through tough draws at 105 and 155.
“Our schedule to this point has prepared our girls for the post season.” Head Coach Jason Hamersley said.
The girls are back in action on Friday, Jan. 3 at Crawfordsville for the first-ever IHSAA girls wrestling sectional.
