New system designed to streamline process & provide online payment
The Hamilton County Health Department has launched an online system for food permit applications. The system allows both new and established food vendors to apply for and renew their permits, provide necessary documents like floor plans and menus, and pay for their permits online.
“Our goal is to make the application process easier for vendors, helping us ensure timely permits for temporary events and new food establishments alike,” said Amy Ballman, Director of Environmental Health for the Hamilton County Health Department.
A soft launch of the system allowed the Health Department to work through some early kinks. It has received 12 permanent and 74 temporary food permit applications since April. Starting in 2025, food establishment renewals can be processed through the online system, reducing the number of late renewals and making the process much easier for both applicants and staff.
Ballman offers this tip for renewals, however.
“If you’re already in our system, please don’t create a new account,” she said. “Instead, contact our office directly to secure the access code associated with your business.”
Once approved, applicants can pay for their permits online through Google or Apple IDs. Vendors will still be allowed to apply or renew permits in-person or by mail if they prefer.
“We are excited to see how this system evolves,” Ballman added. “Ultimately, we hope to expand this tool to other environmental programs in the future.”
