Shortly after 7 a.m. Tuesday, a resident of the 5000 Block of Montview Way in Noblesville opened the door to their garage after smelling smoke in the home. The garage was full of smoke and fire, immediately causing the homeowner to back away.

The two adults who live at the home safely exited before calling 911. The Hamilton County Dispatch Center dispatched fire, law enforcement, and EMS units.

Upon arrival, Noblesville Fire Department (NFD) crews could see large amounts of smoke and fire coming from the home. Crews were able to locate the seat of the fire in the garage quickly. The fire was marked under control a short time later.

The homeowner who opened the garage door was treated for minor burns on scene.

The Noblesville Police Department, Carmel Fire Department, and Westfield Fire Department assisted NFD. Fire investigators have not released the cause of the fire.

As the weather continues to cool, the NFD reminds residents to use caution with space heaters. Space heaters should never be left alone in a room, never plugged into a power strip, and never be used within three feet of flammable objects.
