The Indiana School Counselor Association presented Hamilton Heights School Corporation counselors with the Gold Star Carrying the Torch Award for each of their schools on Nov. 15.

Receiving this status demonstrates that Heights’ schools have a comprehensive and accountable school counseling and guidance program, aligned to Indiana School Counselor and Student Standards and American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards. Participating schools and school counseling programs will implement a plan that includes the establishment of a program vision and mission, data-based accountability, standards-driven student guidance activities, counseling and advocacy, program management, the alignment of resources and an annual improvement plan.

Because Indiana is one of six states in the nation to earn reciprocity with ASCA’s Recognized ASCA Program (RAMP) for the state’s Carrying the Torch to Student Success Comprehensive School Counseling Initiative, the Gold Star status also qualifies each building for RAMP recognition.

Congratulations to Nikki Wert and Tricia Rudy at the Elementary, Sabrina Duncan and Chelsea Pacheco at the Middle School, and Lori Watson, Jessica Cantlon (also nominated for High School Counselor of the year), and April Baugher.
