Millers hold off Shamrock rally, improve to 3-0

The Noblesville softball team held off a charging Westfield team in the top of the seventh inning to score an 11-10 win Tuesday at the Millers’ field.
The Shamrocks got on the board right away, scoring three runs in the top of the first. Ashley Swartout’s double sent Reghan Oland home, then Corinne Molter cracked a double of her own to get Dory Thompson and Swartout in to score.
Noblesville responded with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Emily Minett went first, blasting a center field double to score Olivia Stinson and Grace Smith. Minett was soon home thanks to a single by Julia Furiak. Kyleigh Lowry came in to run for Furiak, and she soon ran home after Ella White hit a two-run home run.
The Millers added two runs in the second inning, with Stinson scoring on a Smith double and Chloe Tragesser getting home on a Minett fielder’s choice.
Westfield scored again in the third inning; Molter picked up her third RBI of the day when her single scored Swartout. Noblesville added two runs shortly thereafter: Hampton singled home Abby Brown, then later scored herself on an error.
Swartout sent Stinson home with a fourth-inning single to get Westfield within 9-5. The Millers scored two more runs in the sixth with sacrifice flies, with Brown getting Smith home and White scoring Minett.
Down 11-5, the Shamrocks made one furious push. Emily Revercomb smacked a double to score Molter. Revercomb scored when Georgia Haffley drew a bases-loaded walk, then Swartout singled home Alexis McClure and Oland.
Haffley scored on a Kelsey Powers RBI groundout, making the score 11-10. Westfield then grounded out for the third out.
Noblesville’s White was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, batting in three runs. Minett also drove home three runs. Maddie Taylor got the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings and striking out eight.
Swartout and Molter had perfect days as well. Swartout hit 4-for-4 with four RBIs, while Molter went 3-for-3 and sent three runners home. Swartout had two doubles, and Oland hit a double as well.
On Monday, Noblesville took care of Greenfield-Central 10-5 in an away game.
Smith hit a two-run home run for the Millers in the top of the first inning, scoring herself and Tragesser. Noblesville then got a three-run homer from Taylor in the second inning, which also sent Brown and Lowry home.
Smith drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth to score Shea Sterrett. The two teamed up for another run in the sixth inning, with Sterrett getting home on a Smith single. Stinson then scored on a wild pitch, and Emily Minett’s bunt single scored Smith.
Hampton completed the Millers scoring by heading home after Stinson reached on error in the seventh inning. The Cougars scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh before a groundout ended the game.
Smith and Minett both finished the game with two hits, with Smith totaling four RBIs. Taylor went five innings for the win, striking out seven.
Noblesville is 3-0 and will host Carmel at 5:30 p.m. today. Westfield is 0-4 and travels to Greenfield-Central today for a 6 p.m. game.
