Jarrod Thomas Mason

May 8, 1976 – November 12, 2024

Jarrod Thomas Mason, 48, Arcadia, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Jarrod was born in Anderson, Ind., to Stephen D. and LouAnn (Caplinger) Mason. Jarrod’s early childhood was spent in Anderson where he attended Pendleton schools during his primary years. After that, he moved to Atlanta, where he attended Hamilton Heights Schools until his graduation in 1994. He went on to attend Ball State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Education and a master’s degree in Educational Administration.

After a yearlong internship at Carmel Clay Schools, he began his career in education at Frankfort High School, Frankfort, Ind., as an English teacher. From there he became the Assistant Principal at Frankfort High School. In the Fall of 2008, he returned to his Alma Mater to become the principal at Hamilton Heights High School. Now back in the community he was raised, educated, and loved so much, he and his family put down their roots.

Jarrod became a leader, mentor, and friend to many. He surrounded himself with like-minded and dedicated individuals, who, like him, put the students, staff, and community’s best interests first. Jarrod was always a man who realized that he was only as good as the people around him. And there were many of them that he held as dear, close friends. He often led by example and knew that doing what is right can be hard, but sometimes you had to do hard things.

Jarrod was a lover of many things. First and foremost, on that list was his family. He met his wife Charlotte “Char” (Thomsen) at Ball State University where they were both athletes. They would marry on June 3, 2000, and have three amazing children: Dean, Taylor, and Cyrus. He adored his family and the moments they shared. The countless miles spent in cars, at a ball field, or fishing on the lake – that’s where he loved to be. Jarrod loved the outdoors and was the definition of an outdoorsman. Hunting, fishing, playing catch with his kids, and being king of his grill were true passions … But don’t forget his yard!

Jarrod’s legacy will live on through his family, the impact that he has had on the Hamilton Heights Community, and the positive influence that he has had on his students throughout his career.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the Hamilton Heights Student Activity Center (SAC), 420 W. North St., Arcadia, with J.R. Moffatt officiating.

Immediately following the service, the family will greet the community for a time of fellowship in the East Gym of the SAC from 3 to 7 p.m. Also, during that time there will be an opportunity to pay your final respects to Jarrod.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jarrod Mason Scholarship Foundation.

Jarrod’s care has been entrusted to Hartley Funeral Homes, Cicero. Online condolences can be given at hartleyfuneralhomes.com.
