Millers fall in season finale

Noblesville dropped its regular-season finale Friday at Beaver Stadium, falling to Avon 24-18.

The Orioles scored first on a seven-yard touchdown run, which the Millers answered with a 13-yard scoring run by Noah Shinkle. Avon added another touchdown run in the second quarter, then a third-quarter field goal put the Orioles ahead 17-6.

Shinkle made a two-yard TD run to cut the lead to 17-13, with Caden Lydle kicking the extra point. But Avon scored again on a four-yard run and held on from there. Lydle kicked a 43-yard field goal for the final points of the game.

Brody Gump led the Noblesville rushing with 111 yards.

The Millers finished the conference season 0-7 and are 2-7 overall. Noblesville is off next week, then hosts Fishers on Nov. 1 in the semifinals of Class 6A Sectional 4.
