James “Jim” Rondald Hurt

May 17, 1943 – October 2, 2024

James “Jim” Rondald Hurt, 81, Cicero, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Born in Edmonton, Ky., on May 17, 1943, to the late John and Mary (Skaggs) Hurt, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, love, and an unyielding work ethic.

On September 21, 1963, Jim married Sharon (Wright) Hurt. Following high school, Jim entered the workforce where he was a steelworker at Bridgeport Brass in Indiana. Jim then became an electrician and spent most of his career as an electrician with Johnston’s Electric, where he was known for his skill and reliability. While working for Johnston’s his favorite job was when he got to spend time working at the airport on the tower systems and the runway lights. He was a man of many talents, enjoying anything mechanical, especially working with engines and electrical systems. NASCAR was among his favorite pastimes, reflecting his love for speed and precision. Jim found joy in yard work and was a devoted handyman.

His legacy includes his daughters, Angela “Angie” Stalcup of Cloverdale, Ind., and Jennifer “Jenni” (Brad) Schweitzer of Cicero. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher (Cara) Hester of Camby, Ind., Travis (Morgan) Schweitzer of Cicero, and Nikolas (Taylor) Schweitzer of Fishers; great-grandchildren, Landon Hester, Raelyn Heavner, Carson Schweitzer, Easton Heavner, Teagan Schweitzer, and Aislinn Schweitzer; sisters, Joette (L.C.) Moss of Edmonton, Ky. and Betty (Walter) Ferinburg of Missouri also survive him.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, John T. Hurt; his mother, Mary Kathleen Hurt; his wife, Sharon Hurt; and his brother, John T. Hurt, Jr.

Jim’s wish was to be cremated and the family has entrusted his care to Hartley Funeral Homes.
