The REPORTER

Hamilton Southeastern steadily built a lead over Zionsville last Saturday, and that led the Royals to a 25-14 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory.

After a scoreless first quarter, Southeastern got the first points of the game with 7:55 left in the second quarter when Carter Reed rushed the ball in for a touchdown. The Eagles took a 7-6 lead late in the period, but a Hugo Belmonte field goal with seconds left gave the Royals a 9-7 halftime advantage.

Belmonte kicked two more field goals in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the HSE defense kept Zionsville off the board, and the Royals led 15-7 going into the fourth. Chandler Weston stepped up in that last period, sending a 46-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Pennybaker. A Belmonte kick put Southeastern up 22-7.

Zionsville scored one more touchdown midway through the fourth, but Belmonte answered with his fourth field goal of the game. Mason Alexander intercepted an Eagles pass seconds later to seal the game.

Stats were unavailable at press time.

The Royals are 2-2 in conference play and 4-2 overall. Southeastern travels to Noblesville on Friday.
