Girls soccer: Huskies vying for third, Rocks tank Bulldogs

The Hamilton Heights girls soccer team will play for third place at the Hoosier Conference tournament after a tough semifinal loss on Thursday.

The Class 2A No. 15 Huskies began the event on Tuesday with a 4-0 win over Twin Lakes in the quarterfinals. Natalie Marcum scored three goals, while Sarah Toll added one goal. Macy Bradley made two assists.

That sent the Huskies to the semifinals, where they took on 1A No. 19 Lafayette Central Catholic. Neither team scored during regulation and overtime, so the game was decided by penalty kicks. The Knights won the PK round 3-2.

Heights is 9-2-3 for the season and will play Benton Central for third place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Logansport High School football field.

University dropped a pair of games this week.

On Tuesday, the Trailblazers fell to the North West Warriors Home School 3-1. University lost to Western Boone 1-0 on Thursday.

The Blazers are 6-6 and hosts Triton Central this Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Westfield, ranked No. 8 in Class 3A, beat 3A No. 11 Brownsburg 3-0 Wednesday in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game.

Ava Smith, Abby Foulk and Elle Fischer all scored goals for the Shamrocks, with Reese Sargent and Kate Malin both making one assist.

Westfield is 3-2-1 in conference play and 9-3-2 overall. The Rocks host Carmel on Monday.
