Marietta (Essig) Love

Marietta (Essig) Love of McLean, Va., passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

She was born in Noblesville on April 17, 1929, to the late Garland and Thelma Essig. On November 22, 1956, she married James D. Love, and they shared 55 years of marriage before James’ passing.

Marietta grew up in the Arcadia area and attended Walnut Grove High School as a member of the graduating class of 1947. She was a longtime Real Estate Agent and enjoyed helping others find their next home. She was a National Association of Realtors member and an active member and volunteer of the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. She enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Santa Barbara, Calif., reading, being outdoors, and enjoying life with family and friends.

Marietta is survived by her daughter, Susan (Steven) Baker of Vienna, Va.; grandsons, David Baker of Alexandria, Va., Ross Baker of Charlotte, N.C., and James Grant Baker of Richmond, Va.; great-grandchildren, Auggie, Caroline, Thomas, and Henry Baker; and brother, Allen Essig of Indianapolis.

Marietta was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Love; parents, Garland and Thelma Essig; and her brothers, Don Essig and Leon Essig.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Hartley Funeral Home, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero. A private inurnment will follow at Arcadia Brethren Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon reception following the services at the home of Linda Essig-Band in Arcadia and all are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Presbyterian Church, 4101 Nebraska Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20016 (nationalpres.org) in memory of Marietta Love.
