Royals, Huskies, Rocks all get conference wins, Blackhawks go 2-1 at invitational

Hamilton Southeastern picked up its first HCC win of the season with a home sweep of Avon last Thursday.

The Royals won 25-14, 25-21, 25-17. Madison Miles led the hitting with 18 kills, while Lindsey Mangelson put down nine kills. Maye McConnell served six aces, with Mangelson adding another three aces.

Breana Morgan made two solo blocks. Ava Hunter dished out 22 assists, and McConnell collected 17 digs.

Southeastern followed that win with two victories at the Fort Wayne Carroll Invitational last Saturday.

First, the Royals swept Bellmont 25-13, 25-17, 25-17. Mangelson put down 13 kills and also made five digs. Merritt Sliwa hit strong with 10 kills, Madi Miles added seven and Bre Morgan had three kills in the middle.

Hunter dished out 20 assists and Jasmine Daniel handed out 10, while also collecting 11 digs. Maye McConnell had eight digs and Bella Dafforn had five.

Southeastern got a second sweep later that day, winning a hard-fought match over the host Chargers 27-25, 25-20, 25-16. Mangelson blasted 15 kills while Miles hit 14. Sliwa put down eight kills and Shelby Bryan hit five in the middle. Hunter handed out 32 assists.

Southeastern is 1-1 in conference play and 9-1 overall. The Royals travel to Yorktown on Tuesday, then play at Fishers Thursday in the Mudsock match.

Hamilton Heights cruised to a Hoosier Conference victory over new league opponent Logansport on Thursday.

The Huskies swept the Berries 25-7, 25-12, 25-15. Emma Blanton served 11 straight points in the first set, including three aces. Sierra Bramel distributed the ball efficiently in the second set, dishing out nine assists. Macie Smith was dominant in the front row, totaling 23 kills.

Heights’ junior varsity won its match 25-3, 25-15.

The Huskies finished the week last Saturday with a dominant win over Alexandria 25-7, 25-12, 25-8. Smith made history during the match, clearing 1,000 career kills. Olivia Schiffli served nine points in the third set, including two aces.

Heights is 2-0 in conference play and 13-2 overall. The Huskies play at Zionsville on Tuesday and Western on Thursday in a conference match.

Westfield picked up a big HCC win over Zionsville last Thursday in a five-set thriller.

The Shamrocks edged out the Eagles 26-24, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 17-15. Carsyn Comer played outstanding, hitting 17 kills on a .517 hitting percentage and making eight blocks. Kendyl Strack totaled 28 digs and served two aces. Emily Blevins handed out 27 assists and Izzy Jackson dished out 20.

Westfield is 2-0 in conference play and 9-3 overall. The Shamrocks host Guerin Catholic on Tuesday.

Guerin Catholic swept Shelbyville on Wednesday, 25-15, 25-17, 25-9.

Maddie Fritch hit 15 kills for the Golden Eagles, while Juliette Fuhrer served four aces and made 10 digs. Claire Ducey handed out 17 assists.

Guerin Catholic dropped a Circle City Conference match to Roncalli on Thursday, 25-7, 25-11, 25-19.

The Golden Eagles are 0-2 in conference play and 3-7 overall, and travel to Westfield on Tuesday.

Sheridan went 2-1 at the Clinton Prairie Invitational last Saturday.

The Blackhawks started the day with a two-set sweep of the host Gophers, 25-18, 25-22. Sheridan trailed 15-6 in the second set before coming back.

Kenzie Garner led the offense with nine kills, followed by Trinity Parkin with three, and Nova Cross and Lainey Mendenhall with two each. Adria Jump had a solid serving day with four aces, while Cross served two. Jump dished out 16 assists.

On defense, Cross collected eight digs, followed by six from Garner, four from both Parkin and Meredith Krupp and three from Jump. Garner made two solo blocks, while Cross, Mendenhall and Parkin all made one.

Sheridan was swept by Lafayette Jefferson 25-16, 25-19 in its second match. Beth Adams and Mendenhall both hit three kills while Garner and Cross each put down two. Cross hit two aces, with Ali Pickard and Garner each serving one. Jump had seven assists and Krupp dished out four.

Krupp led the defense with nine digs while Jump added five; Cross and Garner both made four digs each.

The Blackhawks finished the tournament with a three-set win over Seeger, 17-25, 25-22, 25-10, giving Sheridan a 20-1 finish at the event. Garner blasted 10 kills, with Cross putting down eight. Jump and Adams each hit four kills, Parkin had three and Mendenhall added two.

Krupp and Garner both served two aces and Mendenhall hit one. Jump sent out 19 assists and Cross dished out five. Krupp and Garner both had three assists.

Jump led the defense with 10 digs, followed by Garner and Krupp with nine each and Cross with seven. Garner made one solo block.

The Hawks are 7-6 and host Hoosier Heartland Conference opponent Taylor Tuesday for their Senior Night match. Sheridan travels to Carroll on Thursday for another conference contest.
