Southeastern kicks off conference play with solid win over Avon

The REPORTER

Hamilton Southeastern hit the road for the second time in their first three games and that didn’t seem to matter.

The Royals used a steady run game and an interception return score to cruise to a 28-10 win at Avon to start Hoosier Crossroads Conference action off on the right foot.

After a stalemate at 0-0 in the first, Avon struck first to get up 7-0. But, it didn’t take long for HSE to tie it 7-7 on a Carter Reed touchdown, which would wind up as the halftime score.

An Orioles field goal with just under four minutes in the third gave them a temporary lead of 10-7.

Carter Reed helped regain the lead at 14-10 late in the third, which Southeastern would not relinquish.

The advantage lengthened when Ty Earlewine intercepted an Avon pass and ran it back for a TD, pushing the lead to 21-10.

Chandler Weston put the icing on the cake with a five-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Pennybaker that would account for the final score of 28-10.

Brennan Baker led the Royals with 94 yards rushing on 18 carries, while Carter Reed ran 14 times for 60 yards and his pair of TDs.

The Royals’ defense forced a total of three interceptions. Kian Kelly and Andrew Babb joined Earlewine with picks.

No. 4 Hamilton Southeastern (3-0, 1-0 HCC) hosts Fishers (2-1, 1-0 HCC) on Friday for the Mudsock. The Tigers held off Noblesville at home in overtime last night, 17-14.
