Girls soccer: HSE enjoys two weekend wins, Carmel beats Guerin Catholic

The Hamilton Southeastern girls soccer team picked up two wins in South Bend last weekend.

On Friday night, the Royals beat Penn 3-1. The Kingsmen scored during the first few minutes of the game, but Southeastern tied the game quickly: Sydney May scored off a Sloane May assist.

The score would stay at 1-1 through halftime. The Royals blasted through the second half with two goals. Blair Satterfield put in the go-ahead goal off on Abby Straus assist, then Gracie Pyle scored off a Sydney May assist.

On Saturday morning, Southeastern took care of Homestead 4-0. Satterfield scored the first goal, with Sydney May providing the assist. Rylie Brydges added a goal to give HSE a 2-0 halftime lead. Cole Lance scored in the second half, then Brydges put in her second goal of the game, with Margaux Henning making the assist. The Royals’ defense held the Spartans to two shots, while Hannah Dodge kept a clean sheet.

Southeastern is 4-0 for the season and returns home on Wednesday to play Brownsburg in a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game. The Royals play at Noblesville Saturday night for another league contest.

Carmel beat Guerin Catholic 2-1 last Saturday in an all-county game at the Golden Eagles’ field.

Ella Sarsen put the Greyhounds on the board with 23 minutes left in the first half, giving Carmel a 1-0 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles responded in the second half, as Hazel DeShong scored to tie the game. But Olivia Cebalo put in the go-ahead goal for the Greyhounds with five minutes left to play. Kate Klinginsmith had the assist.

Carmel is 2-1 for the season. The Hounds welcome Pendleton Heights on Wednesday, then host their invitational on Saturday, taking on Fishers at 10:45 a.m. and Brownsburg at 6:45 p.m.  Guerin Catholic is 0-2-1 and hosts Mount Vernon Wednesday before starting Circle City Conference play Saturday afternoon at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Hamilton Heights beat Hoosier Conference opponent Lafayette Central Catholic 2-1 last Saturday to claim its first win of the season.

The Knights scored their goal in the first half before the Huskies came back to take the lead in the second half. Senior Natalie Marcum scored both of Heights’ goals, while Sarah Toll had one assist. Audrey Lang was a powerhouse as goalkeeper, making 12 saves.

Heights is 1-1-1 for the season after dropping its opener last Monday 3-0 at Heritage Christian, then tying Pike 0-0 last Wednesday. This week, the Huskies play a conference game Wednesday at Western, then travel to Yorktown on Saturday.
