Spartz: our national debt is a “ticking time bomb” & corruption in health care is a “weapon of mass destruction”

Last week, Rep. Victoria Spartz met with constituents across the Fifth District in a series of 12 in-person town halls to discuss Washington’s spending problem and the skyrocketing price of health care.

“Washington is adding over a trillion dollars to the existing $35 trillion of debt every six months, and it’s going to get even worse with several major funds going insolvent in the near future,” Spartz said. “Our debt situation, with health care being one of the major drivers of spending, is a serious national security crisis that has been neglected by politicians in both parties for decades. Congress needs to have courage and act urgently to save our nation from bankruptcy and keep promises to the American people.”

During one town hall, a grandfather shared an analogy from his grandson that highlighted the enormous magnitude of this problem: “1 million seconds equals 11 days, 1 billion seconds equals 31 years, and 1 trillion seconds is over 31,000 years.”

The Congresswoman also shared a recent Washington Times article by the former Comptroller General David Walker and Harvard Business School professor Robert Kaplan, stating, “Our nation’s debt bomb is ticking, and time is not on our side to take the steps to create a better future for both America and Americans.” See full article here.
