The annual Mudsock basketball games between Hamilton Southeastern and Fishers is moving to a new place worthy of the rivalry.

The Mudsock games will be part of the initial event lineup at the new Fishers Event Center, the largest mid-size event center in the Indianapolis region set to open its doors in November 2024. Currently, the HSE boys lead that series 10-7 and the Royals girls lead 11-6.
The highly anticipated matchup will take place on Friday, Dec. 20. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the girls game starting at 6 p.m. and the boys game to follow at 8 p.m.

“The rivalry between Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern is the highlight of the sports season,” said Fishers High School Athletic Director Jim Brown. “Every year, the highly anticipated matchup draws a large crowd, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere at the venue. Bringing Fishers and Southeastern basketball to the new Fishers Event Center is generating excitement throughout the community. The facility promises an enhanced game-day experience for players and fans alike, with top-notch amenities and a larger seating capacity. This move is seen as a significant step forward for both schools, fostering greater local support and elevating the high profile of the Mudsock rivalry.”
“We could not be more excited to partner with the City of Fishers to host Mudsock Basketball at the new Fishers Event Center,” said Hamilton Southeastern Athletic Director Jim Self.  “A Friday night, prime time girls and boys basketball double header between the Royals and the Tigers right before the holiday season in a facility that can accommodate over 7,000 fans is going to be awesome. What a tremendous opportunity for our athletes, coaches, fans, and the Fishers community.”

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at FishersEventCenter.com. General Admission is $10, with Reserved Loge and Premium Club seats available for $20. Reserved Courtside seats are selling for $25. There is a limit of eight tickets per purchase. Children 5 and under are free with an accompanying adult ticket.

“The Mudsock Rivalry Game is a legendary addition to the opening series of events we’ll host in the first month of opening Fishers Event Center,” said Fishers Event Center General Manager Mitch List. “We are excited to be the new home court for this widely anticipated tradition. This is just the beginning of many unforgettable events to come.”

The Southeastern girls and Fishers boys will be the home teams for their respective games.

Back in the late 1890s and early 1900s, the community acquired the nickname of “Mudsock” because of the swampy nature of the soil. The ground was so muddy that residents would get stuck in mud up to their ankles, and their horses would have mud caked around their feet looking like brown socks. The name “Mudsock” became a nickname.

The 7,500-seat capacity ultra-modern Fishers Event Center is situated on a sprawling 53-acre plot expanding upon the popular 18-acre lifestyle development Fishers District, and will host everything from concerts, entertainment acts to basketball games while serving as a community-focused venue for local athletes to compete, graduation ceremonies and more.

Beyond its programming, the Fishers Event Center boasts extraordinary sightlines offering a great view from the front row to the back of the house. With premier amenities and gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options available, full details on the venue’s food and beverage selections will be unveiled soon. Future crowds at the Fishers Event Center will also appreciate the venue’s cashless parking system and the approximately 2,000 parking spaces adjacent to the venue.
