Four county golfers place in Top 10 at Indiana Junior PGA Championship

Hamilton County golfers made an impact at the Boys Indiana Junior PGA Championship, which took place last Thursday and Friday at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru.

Westfield senior-to-be Will Harvey finished third at the event. He tied for second with Whitestown’s Mac Myers at the end of the two-day, 36-hole tournament. Both golfers scored two under par 142s; Myers won a playoff for second place. Harvey’s highlights included an eagle on hole No. 6 during his first round; he also drained four birdies total for both of his rounds.

Thomas Klinker, an incoming junior at Fishers, tied for eighth place with 145. Klinker zoomed into the top 10 with a second-round score of three under par 68. He made five birdies in his second round and seven overall.

Two more county golfers tied for 10th place with scores of 146. Westfield incoming senior Jake Cesare made seven birdies in the second round to clinch a top-10 place; he scored two under 69 in that round. Mattingly Upchurch, an incoming Hamilton Southeastern junior, totaled six birdies in his two rounds.

Several county golfers competed in the Northern Junior Masters, which took place this past Sunday and Monday at Warren Golf Course at Notre Dame.

Two Hamilton Southeastern golfers finished in the top three of the Masters Boys division. Incoming senior Kai Warner placed second with a 144, including a one under par 70 for his second round. Warner made four birdies in the second round and five overall. Incoming Royals sophomore Dane Starnes took third with 147, totaling nine birdies across the 36-hole tournament.

Two Noblesville golfers placed in the top 10. Junior-to-be Tyler Marucci tied for fourth with 148, draining five birdies, while incoming senior Lance Decker tied for eighth with 149, making five birdies.

Noblesville also made an impact in the Masters Girls division. Junior-to-be Josie Kelley was the top county finisher, placing fifth by scoring 148. She made six birdies. Another incoming Noblesville junior, Olivia Fowler, took seventh. She scored 152 and drained five birdies, improving her score by 10 strokes from the first round to the second round.

Janelle Garcia, an incoming Hamilton Southeastern junior, placed ninth with 154. She made six birdies for the tournament.
