Ronald Bartley Glover

June 9, 1942 – June 28, 2024

Ronald Bartley Glover, 82, Athens, Ala., formerly of Sheridan, passed away on Friday morning, June 28, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born June 9, 1942, in Sheridan, he was the son of the late Edward B. Glover and Mary Francis Glover-Bienert.

Ron was a 1960 graduate of Sheridan High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he honorably served his country from January 15, 1962, to September 30, 1984, at which time he took his retirement at the rank of CMSGT. His accomplishments during his career in the Air Force were many, including his service during the Vietnam War and being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. However, his proudest moment came when he was awarded his Purple Heart.

Ron saw retirement a little bit differently than most people. Although he did find time to get more fishing in, a life of leisure wasn’t his idea of a good time. He soon found himself working as a project manager on the B2 bomber program with Northrop and as a Space Station change board chairman with Boeing. “Retirement” did give him a little more flexibility in his schedule, so along with fishing, he was also able to keep better tabs on the Atlanta Braves. A lifelong fan, he was glad to be able to see more games and not just catch the scores. He also enjoyed keeping up with hockey.

He was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), and the Air Force Association. He was also a member of the Bassmasters Fishing Club.

He took great pride in his family and loved time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Thoy “Toy” (Boonchoo) Glover. She and Ron were married on January 15, 1969. Also surviving are three sons, Chris Glover (Tina) of Sheridan, Bryan Glover of Strayhorn, Miss., and Scott Glover of McCordsville; daughter, Rhonda Glover-Geyer of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and stepbrother, Steven Butcher of Indianapolis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward B. Glover and Mary Francis Glover-Bienert; stepfather, Harry Bienert; two sisters, Marcia Sue Glover, and Connie Joan Roudebush; and brother-in-law, Ronald Roudebush.

Graveside Services with Military Honors will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.

Pastor Steve Hacker will be officiating.
