Gary Wayne Jones

June 7, 1955 – July 2, 2024

Gary Wayne Jones, 69, Pendleton, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He was born on June 7, 1955, to William Jones and Geneva Wells.

Gary married the love of his life Doris on July 28, 1972, their daughter Jenny was born on January 21, 1973, and they resided in Noblesville for many years. He moved to Pendleton in 2021 to be with his daughter and son in-law, after losing the love of his life whom he was married to for 50 years. Gary was a kind, sweet, gentle man who never met a stranger and always took care of the people he loved. He was a joy to be around and we are very thankful he lived with us for the past three years. We lost him way too soon.

Gary retired from Carmel Street Department after many years of service. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his retirement years very much. Gary loved to travel with his wife, especially spending time at the beach and Brown County. He loved taking his girls to Gulf Shores, Ala., for many years until his wife Doris passed away. Gary loved camping and did so for over 40 years. He loved fast cars, anything that had a motor, and loved watching his “car shows.” Gary restored a 1955 Chevy for many years until he sold it, and eventually purchased his ’67 Chevelle. He was extremely proud of his car and definitely may have burned rubber a few times, something he would be very proud of. Gary so loved his Barn/Garage and spent a lot of time in there, and he was looking forward to it being completely finished.

Gary will be missed beyond words and our hearts are broken. He was just not ordinary, he was extraordinary. Men like him are very rare these days. He taught me so many things but most of all he showed me what true kindness and love is.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Jenny (Trent) Altherr; grandchildren, Brianna Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson, Cody (Allie) Altherr, Hailey Altherr, and Schyler Altherr; great-grandchildren Ruth Altherr and Cooper Altherr; siblings, Laura Moore and Tammy Reynolds; and many other family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Doris Jones; brother, Chuck Jones; sister Sandy Jones; and several other dear family members.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., with visitation starting at 11 a.m., on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Randall & Roberts Funeral Home, 1150 Logan St., Noblesville. Burial will follow at Crownland Cemetery in Noblesville.
