Baseball: Westfield takes on McCutcheon Saturday for regional title

The Westfield baseball team travels to Lafayette Saturday to play in its first regional game since 2011.

The Shamrocks take on McCutcheon at 3 p.m. for the Class 4A Regional 4 championship at Lafayette’s Loeb Stadium. Westfield earned a place at the regional by winning a dramatic Sectional 8 championship game Monday over Fishers 1-0.

The Mavericks won Sectional 7 at Lafayette Jefferson, beating Harrison 1-0 in the semifinals and Logansport 4-2 in the championship game. McCutcheon is 22-4 and won an undefeated North Central Conference title this season.

The Rocks enter the regional game with a 20-10 record. Westfield has consistent hitting: Junior Matt Drozlek leads the way with a .293 average, followed by senior Alex Rudolph with a .286. Drozlek and junior Drew Law both have 22 hits for the season, with Law also on top of the running list with 26. Drozlek leads the RBIs with 27, and both he and senior Brayden Hibler have two home runs.

Senior Ty Anderson is coming off a no-hitter in the sectional title game. He is 7-3 for the season with 69 strikeouts and a 1.77 earned run average.
