Guerin Catholic won an all-county Sectional 27 first-round game last Saturday, beating Hamilton Heights 8-0 at Brebeuf Jesuit.
The Class 3A No. 3 Golden Eagles scored runs in each of the first four innings. Ian Taylor got the first run in the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch. Guerin Catholic added four runs in the second inning: Karson Smith and AJ Nunley hit singles, then Smith got home on Cuinn Morrow’s right field hit.
Nolan Ratcliff hit a sacrifice fly to bring Nunley in, then Taylor’s left field double scored Morrow. Bryson Dorsey sent Taylor home with a center field hit, and GC led 5-0.
Grant Beard scored a third inning run by getting home on a passed ball. Davis Wagner batted in two runs in the fourth inning; his center field hit brought Ratcliff and Taylor home.
Wagner was 3-for-4 at the plate, hitting two doubles along with his two-RBI single. Smith finished with two hits and Taylor had a double. Wagner pitched a complete game, striking out nine against four hits.
Phoenix Vondersaar had two hits for the Huskies, including a double. Dean Mason also hit a double, while Kyle Michael hit a single.
Heights finished its season 15-14. Guerin Catholic is 21-6 and plays Shortridge at noon Monday in the Sectional 27 semifinals, after a 10 a.m. game between Bishop Chatard and the host Braves. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
