December 23, 1942 – April 23, 2024
Harriet Diane Smith, 81, Cicero, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville.
Harriet was born in Indianapolis on December 23, 1942, to the late Albert and Phyllis (Risinger) Pickett. She married Edward B. Smith, and they shared many years before Edward’s passing.
Harriet was gentle, kind, and soft-spoken unless riled up about things she believed in. She was an accomplished seamstress, making several wedding gowns over her lifetime, and sewing for her children. She loved to crochet, making afghans and baby blankets as gifts. She also loved to work outside in her yard, mowing, raking, planting flowers, and mulching. She thoroughly enjoyed music; she liked playing the piano and listening to Neil Diamond and Manheim Steamroller Christmas music. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and then her great-grandchildren. Harriet also always seemed to make time to read and study her Bible. She had a charitable spirit towards others less fortunate, donating a fair amount towards local places like Wheeler Mission in Indianapolis and a mission called ADRA through her church, sometimes being generous to a fault. In her retired years, she spent a lot of time caring for relatives and others who needed a helping hand. She will be missed by all!
Harriet is survived by her daughter, Kelli (Darrell) Fivecoate of Cicero; granddaughter, Brenna (Matt) Salts of Cicero; grandson, Russell (Heather) Fivecoate of Indianapolis; and great-grandchildren, Emelia and Lawson Salts.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Phyllis Pickett; husband, Edward B. Smith; daughter, Katrina Hill; and brother, William J. Pickett.
The family has chosen cremation and has entrusted Harriet’s care to Hartley Funeral Homes.
Memorial contributions may be made to ADRA or Wheeler Mission, Indianapolis.
