Frederick “Fred” Norman Miller

October 16, 1938 – March 10, 2024

Frederick “Fred” Norman Miller, 85, Atlanta, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Fred was born in Tipton on October 16, 1938, to the late Howard and Ruth (Holsinger) Miller.

On February 14, 1960, he married the love of his life, Marilyn Sue Lane, and they shared 64 years of marriage.

Fred attended Jackson Central High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1957. Fred was a farmer by trade and loved his profession; he farmed for over 40 years. After retiring from farming, Fred was in charge of the grounds at Crownhill Cemetery in Arcadia and was a member of the board of directors until his health no longer allowed him to serve.

He loved to be outside whether it was to mow, work on tractors, raise the cattle or sheep, or just go for a drive to see what the local farmers were doing in the fields. Sometimes on those drives, he and Marilyn would venture over to Elwood to their favorite ice cream store, Taylor’s Dairy! They always laughed because the staff there knew Fred’s order by heart. Fred was also a history enthusiast and many of the trips the family took included going to historical sites around the United States.

When Fred was not outside, he enjoyed watching and talking about sports, especially Colts and Chiefs football. Fred was also a devout member of East Union Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and was the trustee for a period. His favorite thing in life was his family and their company, he especially enjoyed it when everyone would come over to celebrate his birthdays. Fred leaves a strong legacy through his family but is going to be missed dearly by many.

Fred is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sue Miller of Atlanta; daughters, Brenda Miller-Blank of Northbrook, Ill., Rebecca “Bekah” (David) Martinez of Carmel, and Beverly (Dana) Hotte of Noblesville; grandchildren, Andrew Blank of Northbrook, Ill., Austin (Sarah) Olvey of Indianapolis, and Megan Hotte of Noblesville; great-grandson, Noah; sister, Jeannie (Allen) Dunn of Tipton; and several nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Miller and Ruth & Lowell Brehm; brothers, James “Jim” Miller and Laurence Brehm; and sisters, Louise Webb and Carolyn Burket.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at East Union Christian Church, 1711 E. 296th St., Atlanta. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at East Union Christian Church, with Mark Knapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Crownhill Cemetery, Arcadia.
